AS Level Law Assignment 2 - Alternatives to Courts
A Key Skills (Communication) research project, devised by Vicki Corkett, covering the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
Task 1
Students are to submit a detailed account of the various organisations that can be used to resolve disputes outside the formal court system.
The project should cover:
-
Tribunals
-
Negotiation
-
Conciliation
-
Mediation
-
Arbitration
Your project should include a description of the approach adopted by each alternative form of dispute resolution. It should include information concerning the persons involved in the dispute resolution process. Wherever possible, reference should be made to supporting authority (cases, Acts of Parliament and research findings).
In addition to factual information, your project should identify the relevant benefits and problems associated with alternative dispute resolution in comparison with the traditional court system.
The project should wherever possible be word-processed and presented in a logical manner, with the use of headings and sub-headings as appropriate. The project should contain at least one diagram or chart. You may, for example, use a chart comparing the advantages and disadvantages of tribunals.
You will need to refer to at least two sources of over 1,000 words. At least one source should contain a relevant image. You will need to submit a Bibliography confirming the sources used along with photocopies of the relevant pages of texts referred to. Do not copy from textbooks or other sources.
MINIMUM NUMBER OF WORDS: 1,000
Task 2
Prepare a leaflet for use by the general public providing information about the various methods of Alternative Dispute Resolution. The leaflet must contain an image, which adds to the meaning of the leaflet, eg, picture, model, sketch, plan or diagram.
MINIMUM NUMBER OF WORDS: 300
NOTE
You should discuss this project with your Key Skills Facilitator to ensure that the relevant processes involved are recorded and can be used as evidence for the Key Skills qualification.
When submitting final documents, also submit the following:
(i) rough drafts that demonstrate you have checked your work for spelling, clarity etc (highlight mistakes on rough drafts).
(ii) photocopies of the relevant textbook pages/newspaper articles that you have used (highlighting the image you have analysed in synthesising information).
(iii) Hand in the 'Record of Evidence' sheet for Key Skills.
