QUEEN'S COUNSEL 2000
Her Majesty The Queen has approved the appointment of four Queen's Counsel honoris causa and 78 new Queen's Counsel. The full list is given below.
This year there were 506 applications for Silk. There were 53 applications from women (10.5%), 24 from ethnic minority lawyers (4.7%) and six from solicitors (1.2%).
Of the 78 appointed (15.42% of all applicants), ten are women (18.87% of female applicants) and three are from an ethnic minority (12.50% of ethnic minority applicants).
Last year, the comparable figures were that 553 applied. Of the 69 appointed (12.48% of all applicants), nine were women (18.36% of all female applicants), five were from an ethnic minority background (16.67% of ethnic minority applicants) and one was a solicitor (11.11% of all solicitor applicants).

Earnings In his Scrutiny of the Appointment Processes of Judges and
Queen's Counsel, Sir Leonard Peach recommended that: 'a table of fees
for successful candidates...be published annually.' The table below is
published in fulfilment of this recommendation. Applicants are asked to
declare their earnings for each of the previous three completed
financial years. The average of these three figures was calculated for
each applicant, and these averages analysed to generate the figures
given in the table.
