IT Organisation Jobs
Assignment 1
Answer 2
Lie is an untruthful statement which perverts the truth and is used to deceit someone either in written or oral communication. The intention of lying is to conceal some information to achieve higher status and quick money, avoid the punishment or for not hurting someone's feelings. There are many types of lies like white lie, emergency lie, perjury, bluffing and promotion lies. If a person believes on some other person's lie, it may harm him and his dignity (Adler, 1997).
I, as an IT manager, served an organization for many years. I used to manage the IT operations in the organization. It was an organization where we used to have quite sensitive data and in case of any problem with that data, my company could not survive. Everything was going smooth and fine. Suddenly my assistant left the company and I hired a new one. The qualifications & experience of the new employee were very favorable for this job and he was fulfilling all the criteria for the vacant job.
After some time, I got heart attack and was on leave for 15 days. After resuming on my job, I was informed from my management about leaking of company's data. Management told me that the rival company is misusing our data. I inquired my new assistant about this issue and he simply denied. But it was very sensitive issue. I checked his computer status during my absence & found everything in it. Then I did background check of my assistant and came to know that he was fired from his previous company for the same but he gave me a false reason about leaving his job. It was shocking, so I fired him immediately and reported it to the police.
This lie was not justified as it resulted into a big loss in business and reputation of our company, but very soon we recovered from it. Thus, a lie of my assistant to make some quick buck could have dumped my company. It was very wrong to mention fake experience, reference and background. Therefore, it can never be considered as justifiable until it is really used for some noble cause.

Answer 3
Negative Letter
Saying no is very serious and can violate the person's expectation and rapport. Negative letters require additional care to avoid damaging the quality of relationship. I had confronted the situation of writing a negative letter when a new supplier of raw material at reasonable cost was available in the market and I had to justify the earlier supplier. The letter was effective in the sense that it was explaining the subject of the letter without misguiding the reader into believing that the letter is positive and that too without foretelling the negative (Writing Negative Messages, 2002).
Being the head of the purchase department, I was supposed to send the letter to our previous supplier of raw material without directly saying no to him, as he was our reliable vendor. The letter clearly described that due to off season, the requirement of the material had declined and as a result, we were postponing the supply of raw material. Apart from this, the letter also described the good performance made by them and how they had contributed towards the success of the organization and as soon as the company required the same raw material it would give an opportunity to them (Writing Negative Messages, 2002). Yes, there are ways to soften the blow and maintain goodwill after the negative letter.
If negative letter is written in an effective manner, which develop trust in the other person (supplier) and also justifies the reason for writing it; In that case, the letter can help in maintaining the good will of the company. The closing of the letter should be positive and forward looking (Wren & Martin, 2005).

Power Point Critique
Power Point is a complete graphical package. It is very helpful if a person needs to give a total professional presentation. It offers word processing, outlining, drawing, graphing and presentation management tools. A power point presentation is made of a series of slides with lot of creative work (PowerPoint Tutorial, 2008).
Power Point Critique: Edward Tufte has given the critique of Power Point and I do fully agree with his critique of power point. Power point is being knocked on the following points: low resolving power, bullet lineation reduce, hierarchical and additive structures, fragments narrative and data, engrossment with format not content, focused on presentations and not learning, makes everything a sales pitch, teacher centered, technology focused, screen centered, (PowerPoint: Friend or Foe 2008).
Power Point strategies: It should support the learning objectives and instructional schemes, avoid power point guides and avoid distracting slide transitions. Apart from this, a power point presentation should not control each and every element of teaching. It should avoid using more than one bullet, avoid distracting clip or unrelated images and use visual literacy and sound instructional design (PowerPoint: Friend or Foe, 2008).
Thus, power point, if used according to the mentioned strategies, would prove to be much more beneficial and there should be a proper solution for the above stated critique.
Answer 5
Firstly, I want to give him advice of choosing that kind of field, which is of his choice. And then if his field is promising, he can go forward but if the field is not promising, he should change it. The reason behind this advice is to enter in a world of surety.
There are many fields available in the world but few are foretelling, so he should choose one of them with full dedication and faith.
The most important advice, which I can give him, is to choose the challenging career and follow that with full devotion and sincerity. There are many hurdles, which can come in the way of his journey but he should face them with his competency.
If he wants to go for a job, he should collect all the information related to the job like (Prasad, 2008):
- What are the requirements of the job?
- What are the competencies and skills he is supposed to have?
- What are the policies of company for hiring an employee?
- What are the terms and conditions of the job?
There was no element of luck in my career choice. Sometimes it so happens that some people, who are very smart and talented, are not selected in the interviews. On the other hand, those who are not enough intelligent, get selected in the interviews either through the reference or jack. Here it can be said that luck plays a big role.
So, in that case also, there is no need of loosing hope. One should try to give one's hundred percent and also try to find out the reason behind each failure, so that the success can be achieved. Therefore, it is required to do self evaluation and improve on the weaker part.
Assignment 2
Answer 2
In this world, no one wants to disclose their lacking or the diseases that they have before others and it is very common. Every person wants to show or represent themselves good, healthy and smart, so generally they use to hide their medical reports. Currently, various health institutions and organization are paying an attention towards the issues regarding the privacy of medical reports (Maxwell & Mehlman, 1999).
Privacy is a must in the case of medical report so that patients can easily hide their lacking and save it from the miss use of it. People generally hide their failures before others and this is only possible when the privacy of medical report is successful. People should take care about the privacy of their medical report; otherwise it will result into a miss happening. Sometimes, just for the sake of money, people do the things which are not justified (Maxwell & Mehlman, 1999).
Many times, like in the case of the heart patients, if any information related to his disease is leaked, it can result into a very big problem like his death or other troubles.
So people should take care about the privacy of the medical report. They should disclose the information only to their close relatives like family members and friends.
Answer 3
In the present scenario, all the classes of the society are found taking drugs. Among the young students also, it is becoming prevalent. Therefore, the need of the drug testing has aroused but there are certain professions where drug testing should not be followed. These professions include teaching, learning, etc. This is so because the drug testing in the schools can lead to the development of mistrust and as a result, the students might get disengaged from their studies.
As in schools, the atmosphere of the trust plays an important role. Apart from this, these examinations might divert the resources of the school from educational program to the program of drug testing. On the other hand, these examinations play an important role in the profession of the athletes and other games like base-ball, car racing, etc. as games are supposed to be played with the full honesty and good spirit, as many viewers are emotionally attached to it (Drug testing in schools, 2007).
Government also incurs heavy cost for their coaching and other activities. Therefore, in games, testing should be applied when required. Apart from this, these drug examinations act as a tool to punish the culprit, who uses drug for wining the game.
Answer 4
Merit can only be achieved with a strong desire and endeavor, irrespective of the level of income possessed by the person. Therefore, it is correct to say that grades and wealth are not related with each other. Efforts only can determine the grade/merit. Based on the endeavor of the individuals, rewards should be granted (Smith, A. & Musgrave, 2003).
There are various examples, which prove that efforts play a vital role in the success of the individual as there are schools, which are established in the poor neighborhoods and still they come up with higher merit by outshining the private colleges and schools. Therefore, it is not correct to say that wealth is the determination of the merit because efforts are the individual specific.
Answer 5
No, an employer should not be made liable for the murder of his employees until and unless the death occurs during the course of the employment.
An employer is not held responsible for the death of his employee outside the workplace. He is responsible, only if the death of an employee occurs during the working hours at the workplace.
For example, if the death occurs due to some accident (such as in mines), or due to some technical problems in the machinery, or in case of some reckless or negligent act by the employer, he is fully held responsible for the death of the employee. In the above mentioned cases, the employer can be legally assaulted in the court and can be asked to pay the required amount of compensation to the employee's family (Bahls & Bahls, 2001).
In another case, if the death of an employee occurs outside the workplace, during non working hours or when he is not at work, due to some illness, prolonged disease, accident, or due to any other reason, the employer is not at all held responsible for that. As he is not liable for whatever happens to the employee or his family members outside the workplace, especially when he is not at work.
Some countries do have the law of vicarious liability, that is, the employer is totally responsible for the occupational health and safety of his employees. But, if the employer has taken all reasonable steps to ensure the safety and health of the employees, he has nothing to fear. As such laws are made to catch those employers who recklessly expose their employees to substantial risk of injury. Thus, to be always on the safe side, employers should fully abide by the laws and take proper care of the employees. Finally, only under the above mentioned situations, the employer will be liable for the death of his employee.
