Illegal Immigration

Introduction

Immigration can be defined as the process by which people immigrate across national borders to other countries which is termed as against the immigration laws of the destination countries. It is termed as illegal immigration because it involves the cross of national borders of the other countries without the right to be in that country. A person can be termed as an illegal immigrant when he/she is a foreigner to that country. Immigration involves the cross to other countries through water, air, land or when his/her visa has expired hence this person can be termed as illegally staying in that country. Illegal immigration may involve a set of several issues some of which may include time constraints and social issues. The various issues associated with illegal immigration may have certain consequences which might affect the economy of that country and some of these consequences many include, economy in the sense that this illegal immigration of people might lead to constrain in the various economic resources which are available in that country or in other way may lead to improved economic growth in that country, social welfare might be affected in the sense that social activities in that country might be affected, human rights among others. (Brent, 1996).

Illegal immigration to other countries may be caused by several factors say the case with wars. People migrate to other countries in fear of these wars. Other factors might include persecution whereby people illegally immigrate to the other countries in fear of being persecuted in their own country and a good example is in the case with the religious leaders. Another factor which might lead to illegal immigration is the case with poverty. You find that most people usually migrate to the other countries in search for higher wages. A good example is in the case with people from the developing countries. You find that, most of these immigrants usually move to the developed countries say the United States in search of well paid jobs, and improved standards of living which could not be achieved in their home country. (Brent, 1996).

Illegal immigration despite the disadvantages has several advantages which are associated with it. You find that most of the illegal immigrant might have some benefits to the countries they have immigrated to and hence this can be termed as an advantage to that country. Many countries are allowing these immigrants to flood in to their countries simply because of the benefit they can get in return. Good evidence can be seen in the case whereby the citizens of that country have to pay taxes for their children to be born in that country. They know that these people will eventually have an impact on their economic growth. So in this case, illegal immigration has become an important issue in most of the countries say in the developed countries say united states. (Brent, 1996).

Increased revenues

Illegal immigration has so many advantages to the country they have immigrated to. For example in the case with increased taxes. A good example in this case is in the United States which has ten million illegal immigrants. You find that most of the illegal aliens have to pay tax just like any other citizen living in that country. Some of the illegal aliens are also forced to pay higher taxes as when compared to the citizens of that country. As a result you find that this country can have increased revenues which are usually got from these taxes. The tax can also be used in other economic activities which might lead to economic growth of that country. Illegal immigrants usually pay sales tax. They are usually charged higher taxes as when compared to the citizens of that country. This tax then may be used in other economic activities of that country say in improving health facilities. As a result, you find that the living standards of these people might be improved in return. Also most of the illegal immigrants who usually have properties in that country are supposed to pay real estate taxes. When these immigrants are forced to pay these taxes, you find that the host country will in turn have increased revenue since these illegal immigrants are usually highly taxed. The economy of that country will continue growing due to the role these aliens play in that country. (CATO. 2007).

Helps the economy moving by filling the low wages jobs

Most of the illegal immigrants usually move to the industrialized countries in search for improved wages and increased standards of living. When they move to these places, they are usually admitted in the low wages jobs. Most of them are usually casual workers and due to the discrimination they face in the highly paid jobs, they find themselves working in the law paid jobs. Also some of the illegal immigrant's usually move to the developed countries in search for higher education. So in this case, they have to occupy themselves during their free times. Also since life there is abit hard as when compared to the life at the developing countries, they have to do part time jobs and these are usually casual jobs that are lowly paid. As a result, you find that most of the lowly paid jobs are usually ignored, the illegal immigrants will end up working in these areas. A good example in these jobs includes sweeping in an office. For example in the United States, you find that the largest population is highly skilled and most of these citizens occupy in the highly paid jobs. The advantages with this are that, the illegal immigrants will help in the lowly paid jobs. As a result, the other citizens can also work in other areas. This will also lead to economic growth in that country. This is can be seen in the citizens of that country since they specialize in industrial areas unlike in the developing countries. (Ungar, 1995).

Most of the illegal immigrants have an effect to their plantations. You find that these people are called to work in their plantations since they are not trained hence leading to the economic growth of that country. The alien skilled laborers are usually allowed to the United States to work in the new industries. As a result, you find that there is a ready labour hence leading to the economic growth. The illegal immigrant's also offer cheaper labour to various businesses as when compared to the aliens of that country. You find that most of the citizens say in the United States are usually skilled due to the increased technology. As a result, you find that these people can not work in the lowly paid jobs so; it is the illegal immigrants who are forced to give cheap labour despite their level of education. Since now these businesses are offering low wages to these people, they can now effectively compete with the other countries hence leading to their competitive advantage. As a result, you find that during globalization, these countries can sell their products at a lower price as when compared to the developing countries. This is because they have low costs of production which makes them to compete effectively. In return they get the largest share of the market which leads to increased growth of that economy. (Ungar, 1995).

Provides a pool of consumers for a variety of goods and services

Most of the illegal immigrants to these countries provide a ready market for most of the products which are produced in these countries. Since these people have to consume just like any other fellow, they lead to increased demands of goods and services. The producers in this case will then enjoy high profits which are got from the purchase of these products. The industries will also grow due to the increased demand of these goods. These people might be termed as important to the country they have immigrated to. Some countries admit these people because of the benefits they usually get from these people. In the market, you find that these illegal aliens have an increased demand for these goods and services. This will lead to the increased demand than the usual demand and the producers usually benefit in this case. Some of the employers of the illegal immigrants usually admit them in their companies or plantations because they know that these people are easily displaceable. They know that they can hire them or even fire them anytime depending on the condition of work. They fire them because they know that they are illegal immigrants and there is no place they can sue them in fear of being deported to their country. As a result, the employers in this case usually get higher profits from the cheap labour they get from these people. (Information plus. 1995).

Improved living standards

Most of the illegal aliens usually move to these countries in search of improved living standards and higher education. It's through higher education that these people will have increased standards of living. Most of the good institutes and colleges are usually found in the developing countries. This is because in the developing countries, most of the times the institutes and colleges are usually not enough to cater for the big population in these countries. As a result, they move in these countries so that they can get higher education which will enable them to work in good places. The illegal immigrants usually get good lifestyles as when compared to their home countries. These countries are usually developed especially the developed countries. Due to the increased technology, the industrialized countries have moved to these countries so that they can enjoy a good life there. A good example is in the United States. This country is endowed with the new technology, most of the industries are found in that country and most of these aliens can move to the United States so that they can work in these areas. They usually provide their services for lower wages but this can be better as when compared to the life at the developing countries. This is because they are not fully developed and hence few places for the educated people to work in. So in this case, you find that most people usually illegally immigrate to other countries say to the United States in search for improved living standards. (Peter, 1995).

Increased investments in that country

Most of the illegal immigrants usually have bank accounts in the countries they usually immigrate to. They usually open bank accounts that yield interest and dividends to the bankers. You find that most of the illegal immigrants are highly skilled individuals and developmental people. They are good investors and when thy move to these countries, they play a vital role. Some of these aliens establish their own estates or even companies. It is in these estates and companies whereby they get a lot of money and usually invest in these banks. It is in these investments whereby the banks can charge high interests on them. In return they get increased interests which help these organizations to function well as when compared to their absence. In return, their investments in these banks will eventually lead to economic growth since the governments will in turn get revenue from these banks since they are supposed to pay tax. So in this case, you find that the illegal immigrants have a great role to play in the economy of the country they immigrate to. (Peter, 1995).

More understanding of other peoples culture

It's through illegal immigration that people are in a position to understand other culture well. Since most of the illegal immigrants usually move to these countries say in the United States in search for higher education, you find that they can interact with the rest of the people from other parts of the country hence leading to a better understanding of these cultures. As a result, some of the stereotypes are dying away because people have been in a position to interact with others, can appreciate other people's culture. So, some of the stereotypes are evading away say prejudice since people can get the same education others are still getting, they also get degrees that are also got by students from the developed countries. It is due to this that the forms of discrimination are getting lost since people can seek higher education to these countries say in the United States.

Most of the countries like United States can never end illegal immigration since they benefit the employers and the government too. For example at Mexico in the united states which is the largest source country for illegal immigrants. (Humphrey, 1995).

Exploitation of resources

You find that in most of the times, these illegal immigrants are expertise in most of the economic activities. When they go to these countries, they can lead to economic growth since they can help in exploring in more resources which were not explored before.

Most of the illegal immigrants also purchase real estates and generate good commission for agents and brokers. You find that most of these illegal immigrants are usually rich people who have escaped with properties belonging to their countries of origin. As a result, they go invest this money by buying real estates. It is in these estates whereby they can be highly taxed hence leading to economic growth of that country. This can be too beneficial to the government of that country since it can use this money to develop other important areas of the economy say infrastructure. (Leo, 1997).

They also purchase auto insurance and also contribute to insurer's profits margin. You find that most of the illegal immigrants have to contribute to the insurance sector. They do this by insuring their properties and also life insurance. It is in this case whereby they get higher profits in return which eventually lead to economic growth of that country.

Illegal immigrants have an impact from the country they come from. This can be explained in the sense that most of the developing countries usually have a higher population as when compared to the developed countries. So when these people immigrate to other countries say in the United States, you find that there is less restriction on economic resources of that country. This is because there will be a lower population to share those resources hence leading to improved standards to their countries of origin.

The illegal aliens come with skills which can be invested in their home countries to produce resources. Since most of these aliens move to other countries like in the United States in search for higher education, these people can also be utilized in their home countries in most of the economic activities. Since they have good technology, they can help in growth of the economy since they lead to innovation in many sectors of the economy. (Leo, 1997).

Conclusion

Illegal immigration is beneficial to most of the countries. That is why most of the countries are even asking for legalization of these aliens due to the benefit they get from them. They have a great impact to the employers and government of that country since they are seen as cheap and desperate and hence can offer cheap services in return for few dollars. Despite the advantages with illegal immigration, they too have some disadvantages some of which include increased crimes. Some of the illegal immigrants are criminals who have escaped from their country because of certain crimes they did in their home country. So when these people come to these countries, the increase the rate of criminals. A good example can be seen with the terrorists, who bombed United States in September, 11. This is an act which led to the ban of illegal immigration to this country. Another problem which is associated with illegal immigration is increased tax the citizens have to pay. They are forced to pay tax to help keep the children of illegal immigrants who are born in that country. A good example is in the case in the United States whereby they re forced to pay higher taxes so as to keep these children.
